An inside look at some of the new products and ideas at Cosmoprof North America. Here's a sample - eight unique and innovative products we saw in Las Vegas during the July 19-21 2009 exposition. Most that we selected are from abroad (Brazil especially) and tend to favor natural actives and plant extracts.

Positioned as the only anti-age breakthrough targeting 16 mechanisms of action, IDC is being introduced for the first time in the U.S. by Immanence, a relatively new Canadian innovator. Unlike other formulations that address single skin conditions with low levels of active ingredients. IDC weighs in with up to 40% active cosmetic concentrations for a more effective approach to renewing the skin's youthful appearance.
 
The quality and performance of the product is at least matched by the understated, sophisticated package designs, which recall super premium Swiss formulations. IDC is one of the most exciting new products we've seen in this category.

 Phytophilo Aromatherapy

From Brazil - The Phytophilo line is far from a technical breakthrough, but still caught our attention because it is based on Brazil's rich bio-diversity. The products are "blended with oils, extracts and active principles from Amazon and other Brazilian locations, with cosmetic properties, helps leave skin feeling clean, hydrated and soft. Created to give beauty and pleasure to body and soul."

These aromatherapy treatments are "inspired by exotic brazilian natural environment, their delicate and fresh fragrances and by their beautiful nature colors."

Cadiveu Thermal Hair Reconstruction

Another unique product from Brazil - Cadiveu Professional promises "Brazilian thermal hair reconstruction." The product is applied to hair after a high Ph rinse to open the cuticle, followed by application of the high amino acid reconstruction solution. The appliation of heat via the blow dryer ensures up to three months effectiveness. We like that it's chemical-free, and that there is a Home Care Kit that clients can use to achieve longer lasting results.

Rodial: Nature - Science - Skincare

In the age of chemical peels and cosmetic surgery, UK-based Rodial has captured nature's power by creating a range of what the company calls "super-effective skincare." The concept is to provide medical-level benefits without the visits to the dermatologist or surgeon. 

"Rodial skincare delivers targeted treatments to specific skin concerns combining the best of anti-aging and firming ingredients." Products include glamtox active daily moisturizer and glamtox peel "the 10 minute face lift." There's also glam balm, a 2 in 1 lip and wrinkle plumper, and - fasten your seat belt - "boob job in a bottle." No kidding, it claims to help increase bust size by increasing the number of fat cells.

Maté Therapy

Brazil has yet another unique product that leverages the country's exceptional bio-diversity and abundance of therapeutic plants. Maté Therapy stands out as "the only Organic Skin Care line based on the extraordinary benefits of Yerba Maté." Apparently Yerba Maté - which we know as a highly stimulating tea - is high in beneficial antioxidants. It contans 24 vitamins, 11 polyphenols and 15 minerals. The plants is more than a stimulant, being used by the Indians of Brazil as an anti--inflamatory and to heal wounds.

There are a range of products, grouped by function: All Maté Therapy Kit, Beautiful Body Kit, Body Silk, a Facial Complex and a Facial Kit, and hair care products.

Dentalogica - The Logical Evolution of Oral Care

And what could be more logical than the Dragon's Blood Tree? Actually, the young team of dentists who created this new product line explain that the red sap of this South American tree is high in antioxidants and phytonutrients; notably the rare alkoloid taspine. Beyond the legendary properties of this plant extract, modern science has confirmed anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and antioxidant properties.

Foremost among the products is the "Fierce White" 3 Day Whitening System and Retouch Whitening Pen. There is also an interesting "Fireball Lip Balm," mouthwash and portable anti-cavity gels.

7 Minute Wrinkle Eraser

How can you resist a brand called the 7 Min Wrinkle Eraser? The distributor (Lava Kiss) says the "powerful 7 Minute Wrinkle Eraser will let your fine lines and wrinkles around mouth and eye disappear almost INSTANTLY on your face in 7 minutes with long term accumulating improvement." "Clinical tests on 7 Minute Wrinkle Eraser's active ingredients illustrate just how effective this revolutionary formula is."

It's a convenient pen that is applied to the tissues around the eye. Results last for 24 hours, and repeat use will have longer lasting effects. The distributor's strategy is upscale -- department stores and specialty outlets are preferable to mass channel stores.

Moroccan Oil For All Hair Types

Moroccan Oil is an emerging line of styling, finishing and conditioning products for hair that guarantee enhanced results, even after one application. What began as a single product - The Original Moroccan Oil - in now a full range of treatments. 

The key ingredient is argan oil, found only in Southwest Morocco. It's a powerful antioxidant, UV protector and free radical neutralizer that is rich in vitamins that strengthen hair and increase elasticity.
